Chinese Roots at the Nursery

Chinese Roots: Sketches of Life in the Washington Township

In 2019, the Chinese History Project held an exhibit and speaker series at the Fremont Main library. We told the stories of the Chinese immigrants who helped build our community in the Washington Township (the current day towns of Fremont, Union City, and Newark) with photos, yearbooks, oral histories, and other items.

Below are three of the 20 panels from the unpublished exhibit. Please contact us for use of these panels and the others. They will eventually be turned into a teaching guide for the community. Want to help?

The purpose of the "Chinese Roots" exhibit was to uncover this lost history of the early Chinese immigrants. We had many positive comments. People were surprised and delighted to hear about this history. They wished for more of this kind of history that we were never taught in school.
