About Me
I am Melanye Rodriguez Serna, 17 years old. I attend C.A.R.T. and McLane High School. I'm currently employed as an intern in a U.S. Bank branch located in McLane High School. I'm bilingual, I speak English and Spanish. I have many passions and interests. Some surprise me more than they should; considering most of my interests have been the same for years. I love helping others, it's something I aspire to continue as I mature, slowly developing the way in which I help them. I enjoy writing, it's one of my passions-- along with reading. I mainly read fantasy books. I like to be taken into a different world, one with completely opposing interactions and endless possibilities-- I love imagining the impossible. I also read history based books; about the Holocaust, racism, etc. On top of that, I love to learn. The ability to learn, for me, is awe inspiring. I love learning about different topics. So far, I've studied psychology, business, personal finance, participated in Teachers Academy, and I am currently enrolled in law and policy class.Â

Joining CART
The Center for Advanced Research and Technology (CART) is a research school in which students are given a choice of lab to partake in for the year. Each lab teaches a career, with more than one teacher. I applied to CART to attend a different environment and expand my level of comprehension. I wanted a lab where I could learn more about others from different schools, learn to better communicate, and study a career in depth, in a way that I couldn't learn at my home school. There were many benefits to attending CART. You're given the opportunity to publicly speak, meet new people from different areas, and learn to collaborate well. Moreover, at CART you're given more opportunities that may help you succeed in life. CART has a criterion for success, the CART habits of mind. The CART habits of mind are integrity, initiate, communicate, create, collaborate, connect, investigate, imagine, reflect, and persist.
