About Roby M. Beki
About Roby M. Beki
Roby M. Beki (/ˈrɒbi ɛm ˈbɛki/) is a German-Croatian singer, songwriter, and record producer. His music incorporates meaningful lyrics sung with complex real vocal harmonies, blending genre-defying elements, often combining pop, rock, soul, and funk in electroacoustic ways. Often featuring extensive use of multiple key changes and unique rhythms. He has created, recorded, and released ten albums as part of his Old-New Album Project and his 11th album as the first part of his Smokin' Fish Society Project.
He was born on October 11, 2000, in Sindelfingen, Germany, to a Croatian mother and a father of Hungarian descent, who is also Croatian. Like his father, he holds dual citizenship in Germany and Croatia. The family moved from Sindelfingen in 2001. They moved to Betra, Horb am Neckar, Baden-Württemberg. He enrolled in elementary school in Empfingen. In 2009, his family, consisting of his parents and younger sister, decided to move back to Croatia.
He began attending the School of Applied Arts in Rijeka, Croatia, in 2015, placing third in the enrollment process. For four years, he resided in a student dorm, typically returning home every other weekend. During this time, particularly while living in the dorm, he wrote over 150 songs, that he planned to perform and record but didn’t yet know how or where.
At 17, Roby considered becoming a professional actor but quickly chose music over this idea, as he had been writing out tabs, playing around, creating and arranging small musical pieces on his laptop since age 12, using TuxGuitar and a limited trial of Virtual DJ and then later the freely available scoring application MuseScore (starting with version 1.3). Crafting whimsical and creative musical loops – where he sang five-part harmonies into a dynamic microphone and used a Yamaha piano to record synth sounds and MIDI drumming into a Boss RC-30 Loop Station every other weekend – helped solidify this decision, making him increasingly comfortable with pursuing a musical career after high school.
In 2018, he sang in his school's singing group and was noticed by his music teacher for his four-octave range, spanning from F2 to F5. After getting to know him better, she encouraged him to bring his guitar to school, where he played and sung the bass parts of the group's songs. He graduated in 2019, earning the title of industrial designer by profession.
In 2019, he enrolled in the Music Production Academy (MPA) in Zagreb to become a professional music producer. He graduated from MPA in 2021, earning the title of audio mixing and mastering engineer. During this time, he continued writing songs weekly, amassing over 700 unreleased songs that feature lyrics and a great deal of musical experimentation on his laptop in Cubase 10.5. LE (licensed by MPA).
At 20, he purchased Cubase 11 Pro, committing to Cubase as his primary digital audio workstation to keep up with advancements in Steinberg's technology. This was a significant step that expanded his creative horizons, making the possibilities feel endless.
Since the start he's been advocating against auto-tune in his music, stating that he likes musical effects like reverb, chorus, delay etc. because they give songs a certain musicality, but heavily dislikes the idea that the human voice can be replaced with something synthetic, thin and bland.
Musical career
In 2020, Robert began work on his first major project—a ten-part album titled Old-New Album Project, consisting of 70 songs he planned out to record, produce, arrange, mix and master on his own. The album is structured as 10 smaller albums, each consisting of 7 songs and often features his partner, Martina Muhvić, as lead vocalist as part of the duo TWEYES (pronounced "twice"). The group name is explained in the description of the song V-Day on their channel: "TWEYES is a group combining not only the collaborative creative power of Martina Muhvić and Robert M. Beki, but also sharing the meaning of love with you through sound. It's a combination of the words 'twice' and 'eyes', pronounced the same way as "twice". The meaning behind it as of now is unknown, and kind of a mystery on its own."
They recorded an acoustic cover of Neil Sedaka's Laughter In The Rain for his Instagram, which inspired Robert even more to pursue a serious music career. He relaunched his already eight-year-old YouTube channel, aiming to publish his albums, with his first release titled Lioness.
His first album, titled Old-New Album: Simple Songs was created between January 1, 2021, and April 15, 2022, in his rented studio home in Zagreb, Croatia. It consists of the following songs: Lioness, Gray Lives, Next Holidays, V-Day, Simply Love, What Was Your Name? and Tina. According to Roby, it is a colorful blend of indie pop, rock, jazz, soul and various influences he absorbed while listening to '60s, '70s and '80s music throughout his childhood and teenage years. The album was recorded exclusively with two microphones: the iconic Shure SM57 and a Røde NT-1A. Each song took an average of 12 working days, with about 8 hours per day, to complete as a whole. Many of the music videos were created in less than five days due to his part-time job and frequently complex life circumstances.
His second album, Old-New Album: Mortal Morals, was created between May 2, 2022, and September 16, 2022, partly in Zagreb and partly in his home residence and new studio near Bjelovar, Croatia. After quitting his day job, Roby dedicated extra time and energy to creating this second album. It includes the songs: Me and Them, Little Sister, Kids, Polar Lights, The Last Tree, Tire Not and We All. While this album carries a more modern pop production style, it remains heavily influenced by Roby's past and musical tastes.
In May, he also recorded a cover of his friend Ivona Starčević's song Can't Find You and a cover of Belle and Sebastian's I'll Be Your Pilot. From September to November, he was inactive due to renovations on his attic roof and its interior. Shortly after, he released the instrumental single OMNIVERSAL on November 30, 2022, a track inspired by modernized '80s music. Following the album, he recorded the music video for Next Holidays (acoustic version) with his partner Martina on January 27, 2023.
His third album, Old-New Album: The End Of The Universe, was created between February 10, 2023, and May 19, 2023, entirely in his new studio. This setup gave the whole album a distinct sonic signature that sets it apart from the previous albums, further enhanced by a recurring motif on the album covers. Each cover, including those for the individual songs and the album itself, features a hand pointing towards a wall. As with the previous albums, the artwork was created by Martina. The album includes the following songs: Dancing On Mars, Honeybee, Charade, Satisfied, Sweet Dreams Passing By (his first written song), Am I Worth It? (extended version) and Let's Not Let The Moon.
His fourth album, Old-New Album: Hyper-minded, was created between September 21, 2023, and October 27, 2023. Although all the albums feature songs that were years in the making— some taking up to seven years to fully develop in Roby's mind—he waited until he was truly satisfied with each song before finalizing them. The album art for Hyper-minded was created by Roby alone, using a pre-processed photo originally taken by Martina. For some songs on this album, Roby asked Martina to help with the lyrics, as a few pieces were lyrically unfinished. The album includes the following songs: Get That Girl, Keen On You, Kitty, Rose In A Bottle, Kiss Of A Dead Girl, Tired and So Far.
His fifth album, Old-New Album: Ready, Set, GO!, was created between November 1, 2023, and December 29, 2023, and was released on January 1, 2024, marking the halfway point of 35 completed songs out of the planned 70. As with previous albums Roby asked Matina for help with lyrics on a few songs that were lyrically unfinished. The visual art for each song incorporates shades of yellow and blue, creating a cohesive visual theme that reappears on the main album cover—a close-up of a blow-up castle—suggesting that the album title invites listeners to "jump" with the artist into unexplored musical territory. The album consists of the following songs: Lips Explode, Days Pass, 'Oh, Girl', Summer, Lolly Lady, Your Wounds and I See My Love.
His sixth album, Old-New Album: Hard 2 Top, was created between January 1, 2024, and March 15, 2024. It features the following songs: Skyscraper, Car Windows Down, Lost In L.A. (Low Awareness), Weird Surprises, Poison Turning Into Water, Whisper, "Lucky" Chances. Notably, this album includes two songs performed by TWEYES—the pop-rock tracks Poison Turning Into Water and "Lucky" Chances. The album cover art provides a glimpse into a typical recording session of the artists, with Roby playing his Fender acoustic Squire guitar while singing into a Shure SM57 and Martina singing into a Sontronics TC-10 and Røde NT1-A, to create a stereo width effect.
His seventh album, Old-New Album: Breakthrough, was created between March 12, 2024, and May 18, 2024. The album cover art shows Roby holding a microphone while punching through a blue paper wall, symbolizing both a literal and metaphorical breakthrough. His gesture of reaching out with the microphone suggests a desire for connection with his audience. The original, unaltered photo was taken by Martina. This album features the following songs: Insomni-ark, Wondering, Magma, My Tortoise, Modest Woman, Stuck On This World (written and sung by Martina), Robotz.
His eighth album, Old-New Album: Definitely Infinite, was created between May 20, 2024, and July 29, 2024. The cover symbolizes Roby's dedication to his eight-year relationship with Tina; both shaved their heads to demonstrate their unbreakable bond and captured the moment by taking the cover photo, eternalizing their connection. This album celebrates their love with four TWEYES songs! The unaltered cover image is a screenshot from a video they made together, showing them hugging. The album includes the following songs: Welcome To My Planet, Shakes and Ice Cream Cones (sung by TWEYES), Possibilities, Inner Child, Island Of Dreams (sung by TWEYES), New High Score (sung by TWEYES), Skydiving (sung by TWEYES).
His ninth album, Old-New Album: Diversity Of Moths, was created between July 27, 2024 and October 5, 2024. This album visually explores the diversity of moths by telling seven different stories in which moths play a significant role as motifs. The digital artwork was created by Martina. The album consists of the following songs: Stone Cold Heart, If I..., Weren't Born This Way, Noticing, Out Of My Mind, Accident (sung by TWEYES), Loneliness.
His tenth and final album of the project, Old-New Album: Equilibrium's Dream, was created between October 1, 2024 and December 12, 2024. The album, in depth, explores Roby's dreams and daydreams. All of the songs have their basis in a "dream event" Roby has had in-between 2016 and 2024. The album art is a moving scale strictly following the beats of each song. Songs included in this album are: Not Her Type, The Moonshine In Your Eyes, Rainbows, Is It Really So?, Bridges, Piano, Look At The Clouds (sung by TWEYES). Thus concluding the Old-New Album Project in 3 years, 2 months and 11 days.

After finishing the Old-New Album Project on December 12, 2024, Roby started creating Slowed down + Reverb, Sped Up and 1 Hour Looped Versions of his 70 original songs. The speedups are x1.25 and slowdowns are x0.80 with a pitch change creating 2 differently sounding versions of each song. One being 4 semitones higher and one being 4 semitones lower than the original tunes. The technique he used for this is digital tape simulation, simulating the changes that tape would've applied to the music if it had been recorded in the 60's or 70's. Both eras Roby likes musically very much. Creating 140 new emotional variations on his music. Which, in combination with 70 one-hour loops (one for each song) featuring Tina and him playing instruments in various locations of his home and studio creates a whopping 210 new videos, offering his fanbase a rich immersive experience to explore and enjoy!
Releasing his first two albums, as written above, Roby released an a capella cover version of the song Only Time by Irish musician Enya on January 3, 2025. The song was completed when he chose to film a horror-esque surrealistic music video based on the uncertainty of expectations and the inevitable uncertainty of time, featuring his family dog, Mini. He documented his thoughts on the song itself in more detail in the video description.
Followed by the release of the 3rd, 4th, and 5th albums as Slowed down + Reverb, Sped Up and 1 Hour Looped Versions. On May 19, 2025, he released the live performance of TWEYES singing "The Last Tree" at a pristine art gallery called Natura 2000, where they played at a caricatures exhibition.
On August 1, 2025, he continued releasing the 6th, 7th, 8th, 9th, and 10th albums from the Old-New Album Project series. He started working on a new project called Smokin' Fish Society, consisting of 3 separate parts. The unreleased 11th album, Smokin' Fish Society Part I is scheduled for release in late 2025. It represents a gear shift into uncharted territories for Roby, including a ton of new sounds, ideas (some old, some new), and perception-bending characteristics.
On October 24, 2025, he released his single The Crow. His second Halloween-related masterpiece. It gained a lot of attention for its dark and mysterious official music video featuring both TWEYES members. The song itself tells a story about a captured thief cursed by a witch to become a crow at nighttime. It gives us insight into the eerie mind of Roby M. Beki during Halloween season. Very fittingly a Halloween playlist has been created on the channel to showcase this will not be his last scary story, but rather one of many to come...
Roby confirmed the SFS (Smokin' Fish Society) Project on November 4, 2025, in an Instagram story post featuring an acoustic take of his yet unreleased song Nan-geh.
On November 28, 2025, he released his eleventh album. It's exactly 40 minutes long and was created between February 3, 2025, and November 28, 2025. Named 11: Smokin' Fish Society Part I. It includes 10 new tracks/songs: Intro (1935), Hello, Hello, Teleportation, Lying, Smokin' Fish Society, Quicksand, Ecstasy Without Narcotics, Night Walk (sung by TWEYES), Life Of The People/Hypnotic, and Let It Ring. The album includes the following genres & elements: acoustic folk, 80's-inspired dance, metal, rap, funk, rock, psychedelic elements, odd meters, microtonality, minimalism, maximalism, walls of sound, orchestration, Indian raga, new flips on 20s-50s's chord progressions, duets, complex vocal harmony and vocal rhythms, poetic lyrics, use of the studio as an instrument, heavy metal vocal fry and growling, chants, catchy melodies, lyrics that came to him in dreams, etc. It's stylistically unique and complex, yet has the charm, wit, and great messages he intended. It's only the first part of the SFS project, and many great things are yet to come...
On December 6, 14, and 16, 2025, the songs Hello, Hello, Teleportation, and Lying were released separately with visuals matching each song's individual style. Therefore, Hello, Hello was shot as a 'regular' music video inspired by the aesthetic and filmmaking of Wes Anderson (Roby's favorite director). Teleportation was animated by Tina for 2 days. She also found the background scenery Roby turned into the final edit of the song. Lying was completely shot with a camera mounted on a shopping cart. One hour of shopping reversed and condensed into 3 minutes and 50 seconds of pure anti-consumerism, anti-capitalism and anti-overconsumption. The deeper meanings of which you can find in Roby's Genius.com/TheNatureOfSound lyrics explanations.
On January 3, 2026, the holiday season short-song Tiny Universe Machine was released. It contains a A-B-A song structure similar to old great American songbook classics. It's a blend of holiday and contemporary pop music.
On February 14, 2026, he released the single Special Colors. Originally written to be performed at the 2023 competition between student dormitories of Croatia by his friend, the singer Ivona Starčević. Although the high effort it took for the creation, the song was rejected and hence wasn't performed. After 3 years of being shelved Roby chose to give it a spotlight within his own repertoire. He altered the original lyric structure of the song on January 21 and re-did the arrangement and production from January 22 to February 9. The music video for it was shot on the 10th and 12th of February 2026 in the city of Daruvar. In it Roby and Tina try to express what it really means to bond in a highly consumeristic world without being artificial.
On March 11th, 2026, he released the official animated music video for Smokin' Fish Society, the main song of the 11: Smokin' Fish Society Part I album. The animation of the character in it was done by Tina.
Roby currently lives in his family home together with Martina. He turned his old bedroom into a brand new music recording home-studio, with full acoustic treatment and a fresh coat of nice yellow-gold paint. As a freelancer, he readily accepts new clients for music productions, mixing and arrangements, looking forward to helping those interested in music creation and art in general.
After finishing his tenfold Old-New Album project— a collection of ten albums each consisting of seven songs and his 11th album, he's now on the journey to create his 12th album. Personally, he likes going for walks in nature, feeding his tortoise Nia (follow @nia_tortoise_official on Instagram), engaging with his audience and teaching them valuable musical lessons with humor and charm on his TikTok @robymbeki.music.official or shares behind the scenes pictures and footage on the TWEYES Instagram (@tweyesofficial). He is also investing into a better future and helping the planet by planting trees, encouraging others to do the same (make your own contribution here.)
