Ahmaud Arbery was murdered in cold blood on February 23, 2020 in Georgia. A video of the incident sparked nationwide outrage, and the two white murderers were finally arrested more than two months later.
This portrait of Ahmaud tells a haunting story of all black men living in America. Their lives come up against a daily backdrop of pain, suffering, and an ugly history of injustice that lives on in the present. RIP Ahmaud Arbery.
The Yankees had dominated the Red Sox for decades, and the rivalry boiled to a head in the Summer of 2004 when long-time friends Jason Varitek and Alex Rodriguez got into a tussle at Fenway Park. At this moment, it became clear to everybody that the Red Sox were not going down again without a fight. A few months later, the Red Sox would win their first World Series in 86 years.
I made this piece to commemorate the greatest rivalry in sports and the most memorable season I have ever experienced as a Boston sports fan.
Roberto Clemente, one of the greatest baseball players of his generation, tragically died in a plane crash in December 1972 while on his way to deliver emergency aid supplies to Nicaragua.
Clemente will always be remembered for his legendary on the baseball field as well as for his humanitarian work off the field. He was 38 years old when he died.
David Ortiz aka "Big Papi" is a sports folk hero in the City of Boston. As a key member of the 2004 Red Sox, Big Papi delivered clutch game-winning hits time and again and truly was the x-factor in reversing the "Curse of the Bambino."
Papi also played an important role following the 2013 Boston Marathon bombings and delivered a rousing speech at Fenway Park, concluding with his fist held in the air and defiantly shouting "This is our fucking city, and nobody gonna dictate our freedom. Stay strong, thank you."
