Midterm Reflection
I’ve been taking online classes since I started college, and I believe that because I am able to give my own opinion on this course I have more confidences in my abilities as a learner. I understand that it’s my responsibility to not only know the content, but also get my assignments done. This class has given me so many different strategies that I can now utilize in my own teaching. One example would be in the introduction assignment. There were two interesting exercises we did, the checks and missing words. I enjoyed them because the first one was like a life puzzle, and the second one was the one that I truly believed that I knew what the answers were. They were both about how quickly we jump to conclusions. I think we as teachers sometimes need to step back and think before we jump to conclusions. I also enjoy the fact that I was allowed to do some research, some interviews, and some personal reflections, which I believe helped me to gain a better understanding of not only my family, and my community. There was one assignment that I found a little sad because I grew up in a single parent household and I lost my mother twenty-two years ago, and therefore I was unable to get a lot of family history. I did have a lot of information, but not a lot from her perspective. “The Reading Text Presentation” was where I found a lot of prior experience that I was able to include it with this assignment. I believe and trust that the remainder of the semester will further enrich my learning, so I am enjoying it just the way it is.
