Introductory Assignment:
When I looked at the “Ordeal Theory Slide,” I was first confused because it had checks. I began to read each check and in my opinion I believe it’s documenting someone’s life. It starts when he was still in his mother’s womb, the mother giving birth, the parents paying the doctor. Then, the boy is growing up in the next transaction; starts private school, gets a bike, starts another private school, gets a car, makes repairs on the car, and starts college. The next ones I believe he is older and maybe going overseas, getting married, having his own children and then his death. The “Schema Theory” fit right into this because as I read each check, I was being an effective reader by; constructing meaning from each check, organizing the information, predicting what each check meant, and evaluating what I already knew.
In the Missing Words, I really was over thinking the story, or maybe I am really not good at it. I thought the story was about children, so it was pretty funny, when I found out it was about raising chicken.
Let’s Talk:
I am Chicana who I grew in the 60’s, in a time when the people of color fighting for their equal rights. I grew up in New Mexico, where we had a lot of diversity. I loved that that everyone in our neighborhood, our schools, and our city had this diversity of people. I believe in God and I believe that He made us different and I know that every person is wonderfully made. I know that many people may hate others because they are different, but I can only change myself, I can’t make others change what they think. I am loved by God, and I believe that I must also extend that to others, which is my part in this world.
