Student Skills/Knowledge

General laboratory skills may include:

· Basic chemical lab skills (weighing, solution making, pipetting etc., using a spectrophotometer)

· Basic microscopy and bacteriology techniques (plating out, sterile transfer and aseptic technique, Gram Stain, Media making)

· Basic recombinant DNA techniques (micropipetting, gel making & electrophoresis, DNA extraction)

· Washing glassware, autoclaving

Pathology Testing students also have skills in

· Basic haematology (Coulter use, blood films- staining and making),

· Basic histological techniques- (slide mounting, H&E stain, microscopy)

· Basic Immunohaematology

Biotechnology & Associate Degree students also have skills in

· Molecular biology such as PCR

· Tissue culture
