These statements are a reflection of how I perceive myself as a person and student as well as the goals I have for myself to become the person I want to be. The statements are a representation of my growth as a college student as the first two pairs were created when I was a freshman in college in my HON-H 200 class and the last two were created when I was a senior in college.
HON-H 200 Statements
I am a hard-working, driven student and person not only in school but as a student-athlete, in work, and in life. I am a dependable person towards my friends, family, and peers; I enjoy helping others with whatever situations or problems they have by talking to them about it. Even though I dedicate my time mainly to my studies and sports, I like to have fun, relax, and spend quality time with my friends when I can.
My whole life I have wanted to be the best and the brightest of everyone, not only for others but myself as well. School and sports was all I knew, but once I got to college, it seems there’s more to life than that. I now see that I want to become more than just a student.
My collegiate goals are the same as they have always been: I want to become fully prepared for my future career and succeed in my athletics in track and field. However, during my time here I want to become a well-rounded, independent, and experienced person. I want to become someone others can look up to not only as a leader, but as someone that people can come to for help, advice, and guidance. I want to achieve this by being a student-athlete and hopefully to gain a leadership position as well as aiding my teammates by being supportive. I also plan on participating in study abroad programs which will especially allow me to become a culturally rounded person as I will be traveling to different countries outside of the United States. In addition, taking the appropriate classes will allow me to become an academically rounded student. However, above all else, I want to make deep connections with other people here. By doing so, I will be able to experience college and life with others leaving IUPUI not just as a student, but as a person who has grown into their true self.
The goals I want to fulfill in college are ones that I hope will better prepare me not only in my career, but also in life. Of course I am here to receive an education, but I want to become more than a graduated student. I want to become an independent, knowledgeable, and rounded individual and I believe that my experiences here will shape me to become this person I want to be.

I have overcome all these challenges through perserverance and the will to keep moving forward through the failures, downfalls, and lows. From the beginning of my time at college, I have grown to take challenges head on and seek them out without fear of failure or becoming one. I have gained significant experience as a captain of the track and field team that has helped me gain skills such as leadership, communication, team commradarie, and more. I am dedicated to pursue my career goals and to start my path towards a fulfilling life!
School and sports have been my life for as long as I can remember. My life has been routined and planned for the past fourteen years, so the idea of starting a new chapter in life where I'm the one fully in charge is indimitating. Therefore, I want to become someone that my younger-self would be proud of and happy to see that I have achieved my goals. The goals for my next chapter are to start a successful forensics career whether that be right after I complete my undergraduate degree or after a year or two in graduate school. I am currently applying to jobs in mutiple states and I applied to the Forensic and Investagive Sciences Non-thesis gradaute program here at IU Indianapolis to see what opportunities will come to me first. In addition. I also plan on continuing to pursue an athletic lifestyle by starting to run marathons to keep my competitive spirit alive and lead a healthy life. I also want to pursue traveling since I was unable to do so in college and I hope to leave the country and see the world outside the United States. This is all to say, that I want to become a successful, happy, and fulfilled individual in my own eyes and on my own terms that will lead me to a life well lived.
Throughout my time in college, I have grown as person through educational, athletic, and personal experiences. In these ways, I have learned how to become a more independent person through handling situations thrown my way maturely and responsibly. Furthermore, I look back on my statements and recognize the qualities in my 'I am' statement drive me to become the person I want to become in my 'I want to become statement'. I have seen and can still see how those qualities shape me as a person everyday. I am not the same person I was at the beginning of college, or even at the beginning of this year, and I can't wait to see where I am in the future.
