Remediation of Round Lake Center Public Boat Launch

The Round Lake Center Boat Launch services over 1000 vessels per year, and is an integral part of tourism for the area. Since the BRWMP has been in place for a few years, and the water levels have become consistently lower in the Fall, work is necessary on the boat launch ramp. With lower water levels, users of the boat launch are required to back further into the lake to launch their watercraft. Upon exiting, vehicles are spinning their wheels (since they have needed to go far beyond the old ramp area), creating ruts, and displacing lake bed material, causing a difficult and dangerous situation. The remediation would involve installing ecologically friendly Fiberglass grates, that would provide stability to the sand lake bottom. The grates extend out 30’ (or further if required), into the lake, and do not need to be removed for winter.  Donations from business and RLPOA has made it possible to remediate the boat launch.  The Township Council passed a resolution on October 3, 2023 for this work to be completed in spring 2024.  The prepatory steps for installation will now commence.

Extension of Dock at Public Boat Launch

In 2023 the RLPOA provided a donation to the Township of Killaloe Hagarty and Richards to procure extensions to the existing public dock located at the Public Boat Launch in Round Lake Center.  Subsequent to the donation and KHR's approval from council for funding, 2 sections of docks have been procured and are currently in the posession of the township.  Due to the late arrival the decision was made to wait until the spring 2024 to install the additional pieces  (between the black block on the diagram).  Each section measures approximately 9' so the dock will be extended a total of 18' at the time of installation next spring.

Road Shoulder Paving and Hardening on County Road 58 (Round Lake Road)

Update:  2023 Letter from Round Lake Property Owners Association to County of Renfrew Operations Committee / Lee Perkins.... Link to letter

For a number of years, our Association has voiced its concern about safety issues on Country Road 58 (Round Lake Road), both to the KHR Township Council, and the County of Renfrew. In 2023, paving was approved on the 2.5km stretch from Deer Trail Rd (Sheryl Boyle Park/Bonnechere Store) to Bonnechere River Bridge. But no additional hardening of road shoulders was scheduled for the safety of residents.

As a result, RLPOA lobbied to have the road shoulders paved when the new paving took place. RLPOA was invited to make a presentation on the importance of shoulder paving, at the County of Renfrew Operations Committee, on April 11, 2023.

Rob Norris (RLPOA President) made a presentation at the meeting and many members attended the meeting, and emailed the County in support. The result was that the hardening of road shoulders was approved, and completed in 2023, on County Road 58 between Deer Trail Rd and Bonnechere River Bridge.

Below is a video of the Renfrew County Operations Committee meeting on April 11, 2023.  In this video you will see the presentation made by Rob Norris to the County of Renfrew.

Road safety issues such as speeding, and limited hardening of road shoulders, are still a problem on County Road 58. Your Association will continue to ensure that we voice our concerns to the Township and County to make our area safer.

We would like to thank the County of Renfrew Operations Commitee and Mr. Lee Perkins, Director of Public Works and Engineering, for their support of our Commmunity Road Safety request.

Bonnechere River Water Management Plan (BRWMP)

This was a major undertaking involving RLPOA working with many levels of Local Municipal, Provincial and Federal Governments, Local Community Associations, and Power Generation Organizations.  This coordinated effort has directly benefited all property owners in Round Lake and all communities downstream.  If you need to refresh your memory on flooding prior to the amendment, please click HERE.  Many hours were put into this amendment and the RLPOA was a direct contributor and well represented, with President (Rob Norris) being elbow deep in the entire amendment process, Thank you Rob from all of the property owners!!!!  Please click below to see the entire plan.

Amendment Overview

Water Levels

Every year we receive numerous questions relating to when and why the water is lowered.  In an effort to answer some of these questions Renfrew Power Generation (RPG) has provided the following answers to the frequently asked questions.

Distance Markers

Completed in 2018, the RLPOA Board installed kilometer (Km) markers around the lake. Twenty nine markers, one every kilometer, are a great addition to our lake to allow the community to get outdoors, exercise and measure their fitness progress.  The starting point is at the intersection of County Road 58 and Red Rock Road and the route goes clockwise around the Lake. Many thanks to all the volunteers, who worked with the County of Renfrew and the Township of Killaloe, Hagarty and Richards to help make it happen.

Lake Trout Restocking

In 2012, a trout restocking project was approved by the Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry (MNRF) with the purpose of adding 43,450 lake trout to our lake over a four year period.  Contributions from the Round Lake Property Owners Association, The Township of Killaloe, Hagarty and Richards, as well as individuals, helped to ensure this project was a success.

Marker Buoy Program

The Round Lake Property Owners Association Boating Hazard Markers Committee has installed a number of marker buoys around the lake marking navigation hazards.  A map of the buoy locations can be viewed at THIS link.
