STEM Education Week 2025: A Nationwide Celebration of Innovation and Learning
River Falls, WI – March 14, 2025 – STEM Education Week 2025 is set to inspire students, educators, and professionals across the country with a ten-day celebration of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM). Taking place from March 14th to March 23rd, 2025, this nationwide event will spotlight the importance of STEM fields in shaping the future.
In River Falls, Wisconsin, local initiatives are playing a pivotal role in reinforcing STEM education through Robotics and LEGO Leagues:
The River Falls School District (RFSD) offers a comprehensive robotics program that engages students from elementary through high school:
Elementary School LEGO Leagues: Through the FIRST LEGO League, elementary students design, build, and program LEGO robots, applying math, science, and engineering concepts. This program fosters creativity, critical thinking, and teamwork, inspiring a passion for STEM from an early age.
Meyer Middle School LEGO/VEX Robotics League: Middle school students participated in LEGO League this school year and will participate in the VEX Robotics program next school year. Students design, build, and program robots to tackle real-world challenges. This hands-on experience enhances their understanding of STEM concepts and equips them with the skills to excel in future STEM pursuits.
High School RoboCats Club: The River Falls High School FIRST Robotics Team, known as the RoboCats, meets regularly to build and program robots for various functions. The club offers both competitive and non-competitive opportunities, allowing students to engage deeply with robotics and engineering principles. The River Falls High School RoboCats, Team 9149, showcased their engineering skills at the Seven Rivers Regional FIRST Robotics Competition (FRC), held from March 19 to March 22, 2025, at the La Crosse Center in La Crosse, Wisconsin.
These programs are supported by the River Falls Robotics Booster Club, whose mission is to promote STEM education, teamwork, and creativity among K-12 students in the RFSD through the exploration of robotics and related technologies.
