Over time, the RIT tiger has changed quite a bit! Did you see any of these tigers in the exhibit's content?
RIT hasn't always been called the RIT Tigers. RIT started out with a blue and gray color palette, being called the "RIT Techmen." The mascot at the time was a dog named Brownie. However, after an undefeated basketball season in 1955-56, students wanted a fiercer name and mascot. The head of the RIT news Bureau, Henry Watts, started calling the RIT sports teams the "RIT Tigers." And since then, the name has stuck!(1)
