Recent

26 to 28 October 2026. We have four contributions at the Society of Rheology 97th Annual Meeting in Boston. Rishabh gives a flash talk on colloidal suspensions and granular materials at the Future Flows Undergraduate Day, and a talk on the role of the second normal stress difference in rod climbing (SM33, 28 October, 5:25 pm). Huadan Xu presents our joint work with Gareth McKinley, Wilson Poon and John Royer on rolling constraints in depletion gels (GN30, 28 October, 10:30 am), and our poster with A. Maia and A. Singh shows how rotational frustration drives shear jamming in dense suspensions (PO81). Rishabh also chairs the session on flow-induced instabilities and non-Newtonian fluids (FI02, 26 October) and co-organises the Future of Rheology mini-session.

21 October 2026. Our paper introducing the STRAC contact model for rough colloids is now under review.

12 October 2026. Preprint with Bilal Ben Jemaa, VensoGrow and Daniel Duke on drop sizes in full-cone sprays posted on arXiv.

28 September 2026. Aditya Bhowmik's paper on Einstein's viscosity for a density-stratified suspension is now under review.

September 2026. A paper by our undergraduate students Mashael Alhassani and Madelaine Loh, with Parama Chakraborty-Banerjee, on how close a hydrated deep eutectic solvent comes to a Boger fluid is now under review.

16 July 2026. Anurag Tripathi, the lab's first PhD student, passed his final PhD milestone seminar.

6 to 9 July 2026. RheoSchool and the Annual Meeting of Australasian Rheologists (AMAR) at UNSW Sydney. Rishabh chaired the RheoSchool organising committee and taught two sessions on 6 July, one on getting more out of shear rheology data and one on extensional characterisation with a spring-loaded capillary breakup rheometer, with a hands-on practical. At AMAR he spoke on strain-transport superposition in dense non-Brownian shear-thinning suspensions (9 July).

May 2026. Mark Coghill from Rio Tinto gave a guest lecture on tailings to our CHE4162 Particle Technology class.

23 March 2026. Single-author paper on the role of the second normal stress difference in the Weissenberg (rod-climbing) effect published in Physics of Fluids.

January 2026. Rishabh receives an Australia–India Strategic Research Fund Early- and Mid-Career Fellowship and a Theo Murphy Amplify Grant from the Australian Academy of Science.

15 January 2026. Preprint on strain-controlled particle transport in shear-thinning dense suspensions posted on arXiv.
