When it comes to The Roar, diversity begins and ends with representation. That means representation of a wide range of races, genders, and interest on staff, each member bringing their unique ideas to the table. More than that, The Roar promotes diversity through our writing and reporting. Introducing…The Six Interview Rule.
For each article, reporters must interview and include quotes from at least six people.
“But, Risha,” many reporters have complained, “six whole interviews is sooooo many. And for each and every article? That’s overkill.”
It’s really not. Six interviews is our way of ensuring that we not only reach out to as many people involved as possible but also that we represent as many perspectives as possible. Sometime that means that I have to do some last-minute interviewing after an article is turned in to meet the standard, but I'm okay with that.
In addition, we only do quote attributions with “said” to avoid editorialization, and when we publish an op-ed on a divisive topic, we publish a counter-perspective as well. One-sided journalism does no one any good.
