9/5/2015 Queens Hike: Quest to find Mamita's!
What's a mamita? It's a flavored ice treat found in delis/bodegas in Queens...however, that was the theory. Here's the story. In preparation for new hikes that I've never done before, I always planned my routes and then conduct a trial hike before I posted the hike on meetup. So one day, while I was doing an abridged version of my bridges hike, I invited a few friends to come along on the trial hike on 8/2/2015 and a portion of the hike was passing by High Bridge where people were handing out free "mamitas" and we all took one and since I haven't ever eaten it before, they were good. I remember trying a coconut creme flavored one and theorized that only Queens had these. Knowing this, I decided to make it a hike on meetup. I'm pretty sure we started this hike at the Roosevelt Island tram and crossed over into Queens before making our way zigzagging through neighborhoods eastward in search for the Mamita's. Through several stores, we found them and ate them along the way. Our goal was to reach Flushing Meadows Park and someone had mentioned to stop at the Lemon Ice King of Corona, and so we did! This was probably the mellow-ist hike of them all just because it was centered around finding Mamita's. Months later, my friend Jeff told me that he didn't want to break my heart and have me canceled the hike in search for Mamita's in Queens because they were in Sunset Park... and then my friend Tim told me that Mamita's were in Midwood... Then within a few days later...I visited a deli/snack store 1 block away from my house and low and behold, were Mamita's in the freezer...IN BROOKLYN. You see, you can have a lot of FUN when you don't care about the purpose of the hike. It just starts as an idea and you run with it.

This was the end of the hike because I had to take a train upstate for Labor Day weekend. Such a fun group! I think this is my favorite jump picture given the location and our adventures that day.
The group that defied my orders for a 30 min lunch and ate a sitdown instead; Daniel takes a picture of me.
I take a picture of Boris, Daniel, Amos and Raghu.
