My grandfather was interested in keeping the recorded history of our family & extended connections. He collected his own information from cousins and in-laws, which some were living in the United States. In 1937, correspondence from his sister-in-law living in Cleveland, Ohio, gave him twelve pages of typed genealogy and letters in reference to Jacob Everitt who was a surgeon during the American Revolution. Information involving connections to two Mayflower families of Soule and Everitt were also included. There were names and dates linking families from the 1600s to my sister's birth which was hand written. My grandfather passed away a year after I was born. My grandmother had his notes and photographs collected in boxes, to which another relative had gone through. I asked for those items on condition I kept the information going to share with future generations. A lot of the material was sourced to a few family members who passed long ago.
My interest in the history of the family led me to Ottawa to study Archives. When I arrived in Ottawa , I found myself looking through publications of genealogy societies, microfiche, city directories and census records trying to source the material. I also discovered that ancestors on my mother's side settled in the Ottawa Valley. So I worked on that too.
Over the years of research, I have original documents, photographs, tax records, wills, letters, and other correspondence on many families. Some of the photographs date back to the 1870s. Not all are identified. Some were identified before my paternal grandmother passed away. For most families, this is rare, because some people move on or these types of items are discarded.
There are sub pages covering different people or families.
