Julia Ann Wright was born Dec 2, 1847 in Birmingham, England to William Henry and Emma Taylor Wright.
Before Julia was born, her parents were converted to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. On April 26, 1855, the Wright family boarded the William Stetson and landed in New York City, New York on May 27.1 After their arrival, Julia's father began working for a man in New York to make money for the family to cross the plains. In 1859, the Wright family had enough, and traveled to Florence, Nebraska Territory to be placed in a company. They joined the James S. Brown Company on June 13, 1859 and arrived in the Salt Lake Valley on Aug 29.
"I saw the first hand cart company start for Utah. They sang "some will push, some will pull, as we go marching up the hill, as merrily on we go un-til we reach the valley oh." But when we caught up with them, they looked so tired...
"When we camped for the 24 [of July,] my Mother had made two big fruit cakes before leaving the east. She cut them passed it around to every bodie in the camp. About 80 people. We did not travel that day but held a little meeting then done a little washing put our clothes on the spring seat and sit on them, that was all training they got. Then at night we danced on the grass, did not travel on Sunday a day of rest, thanking the Lord for being so kind to us.
"When the Indians would come to our camp, we would give them beads an little tin cups my mother brought with her. The Indians would say 'you Brigham Young people good man, no fight but need a heap.'"
In 1860, the Wright family moved to Richmond. On Jan 22, 1864, Julia married Robert Thomas Petty.
Julia Ann Wright died April 29, 1939 in Ogden, Utah. She was buried in the Richmond Cemetery.
