Cyrene Standley was born May 1, 1840 in Nauvoo, Illinois to Alexander Scoby and Philinda Upson Standley. Cyrene is a Pioneer of Richmond.
Soon after Cyrene was born, the Standley family began preparations to move west. They joined the Thomas C.D. Howell Company on June 7, 1852 and arrived in the Salt Lake Valley on Sep 2. Soon after their arrival, the Standley family moved to Bountiful, Utah.
After the death of her father in 1854, Cyrene inherited land. Cyrene married Marriner Wood Merrill as his second wife on June 5, 1856 in Salt Lake City, Utah. The land Cyrene inherited, she gave to Marriner, helping him and the Merrill family become the successful business owners they would become.
In 1860, the Merrill family moved to Richmond after the advice of Apostles Ezra T. Benson and Orson Hyde. Their first home was a wagon they used to travel from Bountiful to Richmond. Later, they were able to purchase a home in Richmond, then construct a home at Gilt Edge.
Cyrene Standley died Nov 24, 1917 in Lewiston, Utah. She was buried in the Richmond Cemetery.
