In 1866, Bishop Mariner Wood Merrill instructed Goudy E. Hogan and Christen Hyer to construct a grist mill on the Cut River. They began in mid June and had the mill running by Feb 15, 1867. The grist mill was dedicated by Church Apostle Ezra T. Benson and the total cost was $13,000.
In 1907, the mill and the farm adjacent to the mill were purchased by Mariner's son Olonzo David Merrill. Source
