Isaac Smith Jr. was born Aug 17, 1833 in Burbage, England to Isaac and Charlotte Eagle Smith. Isaac is a Pioneer of Richmond. Isaac was a veteran of the Indian Wars.
The early life of Isaac is unknown. In 1850, many of the Smith family converted to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, and Isaac was baptized on June 12, 1850. After saving enough money, by himself, Isaac began his journey to Utah. Family histories suggest that Isaacs belongs in a single, wrapped handkerchief. He sailed on the Marshfield on April 8, 1854 and arrived in New Orleans, Louisiana, on May 29.1 The exact company Isaac traveled with is unknown, but he did make it to Utah in 1854.
Isaac Smith marries Sarah Choules on June 1, 1857. In 1860, they moved to Richmond. Later, Isaac's brothers James and William moved to Richmond. In 1871, Sarah died, and after Isaac remarried, he moved his family to Lewiston, Utah.
After the construction of the Richmond Fort in 1860 and other forts in Cache Valley, the Territory of Utah created the Cache Military District on Oct 15, 1861 with Church Apostle Ezra T. Benson as Colonel. On June 16, 1863, Richmond was organized into two companies of Infantry and two squads of Cavalry. James was appointed as a Private in both instances.
James Smith Jr. died Feb 7, 1926 in Lewiston, Utah. He was buried in the Richmond Cemetery.
