Charles Lewis Allen was born May 30, 1865, in Richmond to Charles Hopkins and Elizabeth Adelaide Hoopes Allen.
Richmond Life
Charles Lewis was born of small stature, hard of hearing, and physically weaker, working mainly with his grandmother, Pricilla Gifford Hoopes, in making and repairing shoes. His grandfather, Warner Hoopes, taught Charles how to play the violin.
Epilogue
The Allen family moved to Mesa, Arizona in 1882 where Charles lived the rest of his life. He died Feb 11, 1944, in Mesa, and was buried in the Mesa, Arizona Cemetery.
