Mary Ellen Wood was born on Jan 27, 1836 in Douglas, Isle of Man to Charles and Alice Pearson Wood. Mary is a pioneer of Richmond.
At the young age of three, Mary's mother died in 1839. Mary was placed in a foster home to be raised. Before 1850, Mary was converted to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She joined the Saints to move to the United States on the Marshfield from Liverpool on April 8, 1854.1
She was hired on the ship as a nurse to tend to a pregnant woman who was married to John Allsop. Mary arrived in New Orleans, Louisiana on May 29, and the same year, she joined an unknown company to take her to Utah. Mary walked most of the way to travel to Utah. During that time, she became acquainted with John Allsop, who's wife had died before the trek. John and Mary were married on Sep 12, 1854 in Rawlins, Wyoming during their treck. After their arrival to Utah, they made their first home in Bountiful, Utah.
The family moved to Richmond in the spring of 1860. While in Richmond, Mary was called and set apart as the Primary President of the Richmond Ward in 1881 and was released in 1891.
On Oct 24, 1876, John died. Mary moved to Grace, Idaho in 1891 were some of her family was living. Mary Ellen Wood died on April 18, 1911 in Turner, Idaho and was buried in the Richmond Cemetery.
