John Albiston Jr. was born on April 4, 1814, to John Sr. and Hannah Thacker Albiston in Stockport, United Kingdom. John is a Pioneer of Richmond. John is a veteran of the Indian Wars.
John Albiston married Elizabeth Mellor on May 26, 1833, in Saddleworth, United Kingdom. John and Elizabeth were baptized to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in August of 1840. All five of their children were also baptized to the Church, and the family began their journey to Utah. The Albiston family joined the ship Windermere on February 22, 1854 and arrived in New Orleans, Louisiana on April 23.1 The family then took a steamship to St. Louis, then traveled to Kansas City, Missouri, and joined the Darwin Richardson Company on June 17, 1854. The family arrived in Utah on Sep 30, 1854.
The Albiston family first moved to Grantsville, Utah, for an unknown number of years. The Abliston then moved to Wellsville, then to Richmond.
After the construction of the Richmond Fort in 1860 and other forts in Cache Valley, the Territory of Utah created the Cache Military District on Oct 15, 1861 with Church Apostle Ezra T. Benson as Colonel. Richmond was organized as the 5th Battalion Infantry, with Thomas L. Whittle as Major, David P. Rainy as Adjutant, and Robert M. Kerr and Dana Walton as Captains. John was appointed Private.
John Albiston died on April 2, 1891 in Franklin, Idaho. He was buried in the Richmond Cemetery.
