Alma Clint Buxton was born Jan 1, 1895 in Hinckley, Utah to John Alfred and Martha Alice Carson Buxton. Alma was a veteran of World War I.
Before Clint was born, his father and grandfather, John Buxton, moved to Teton Valley, Idaho. When Clint was nine years old, his father was tragically killed in an accident while getting firewood. Stricken with grief and unable to care for her family alone, Clint's mother moved her family to Richmond while she got herself back on her feet and went to nursing school to support her family. After some time, the Buxton family moved out of Richmond.
On Sep 19, 1917, Clint was drafted into World War I and was placed into the 162d Depot Brigade.1
"The role of depot brigades was to receive and organize recruits, provide them with uniforms, equipment and initial military training, and then send them to France to fight on the front lines. The depot brigades also received soldiers returning home at the end of the war and completed their out processing and discharges. Depot brigades were often organized, reorganized, and inactivated as requirements to receive and train troops rose and fell, and later ebbed and flowed during post-war demobilization."2
"Lester, Clint, and Darrell all registered for the military draft during World War I. Clint was with the first draft that left Teton Valley and, along with the others who left for the military that day, were sent off with a special celebration complete with bands and programs in Victor and Driggs. They were loaded into a model T and drove to Tetonia where they boarded the train. Clint spoke of riding the troop ship to France and the unpleasant experience of soldiers suffering from seasickness. His skills with horses landed him as a First Sargent in the Field Artillery."3
Clint was discharged on Feb 26, 1919.1
After his war service, Clint moved back to Teton Valley. Alma died March 4, 1965 in Arco, Idaho. He was buried in tthe Lost River, Idaho Cemetery.
