My administrative experience in higher education has allowed me to help both faculty and students succeed in their teaching, research, and service. I have 14 years of leadership experience across both the College and Department levels.
As Associate Dean for Research and Grants in the College of Media & Communication (2013-2021), I helped guide our College's pursuit of sponsored research and champion scholarship across all departments within the College of Media & Communicaiton. Key achievements included:
Increased College-wide applications for extramural funding to more than $18M.
Increased College-wide awards for extramural funding to more than $1.6M.
Established or grew partnerships with peer units across campus, including TTU Health Sciences Center; Whitaker College of Engineering; Davis College of Agricultural Sciences & Natural Resources; College of Human Sciences, TTU National Wind Institute, and more.
Recruit and hire first-ever grant writer within the College to support faculty pursuit of sponsored research.
While serving as Associate Dean, I also served as Director of Center for Communication Research (2012-2021). I helped grow the CCR into a world-class lab for the study of message processing and response, housing technology for capturing biometrics, real-time audience response, and qualitative data.
As director, I helped establish or grow multiple labs and facilities:
Biometric/psychophysiology labs for the collection of heart rate, skin conductance, and facial electromyogrphy to index both attention and emotional response to messages.
Eye tracking labs for the collection of visual attention to media messages.
Dial-testing lab to measure continuous, real-time evaluation of audience research to media messages, or live in-person presentations.
In-home simulation lab equipped with remote observation recording capability.
Focus group lab and client observation room.
Under my direction, the CCR supported both academic and applied research, partnering with regional and national clients both inside the academic sector and beyond to conduct market research, including survey research, focus groups, and dial-testing studies. Partnerships included both full-service custom research solutions, facilities/technology support, and/or participant recruitment.
The CCR also provided oversight of a student research participant pool of more than 4,000 unique users, logging more than 13,000 hours of research participation annually, including faculty- and student-led research projects.
I have also gained departmental leadership experience in multiple capacities.
Interim Department Chair, Journalism & Creative Media Industries (2023-2025). Lead 20+ faculty across ranks as well as adjunct faculty across two degree programs. Duties included management of departmental budget, strategic planning and curriculum revision, faculty recruitment and mentorship, student recruitment, course scheduling, and more.
Interim Area Coordinator, Media & Communication Area (2022-2023).
Assistant Chair, Department of Electronic Media & Communication (2010-2012). Lead efforts to develop and catalog assessment data to guide education outcomes of departmental offerings. Supported department leadership in undergraduate student recruitment.
