INFORMATION FOR NEW STUDENTS

Please refer to this website to obtain information regarding communication software, a list of lessons and their presentations and location, daily study-practice, home-learning assignments, and studying resources to prepare for assessments.

1. COMMUNICATION

The following application is used for teachers and students to communicate: Schoology. 

Please ask your child for his/her password to enter the student portal.

2. LIST OF LESSONS

On the teacher’s website, you must look for your Math level (Algebra 1 or Algebra 2) and you will see the list of lessons that will be covered during the school year.  Next to each lesson title you will see a code in bold letters.  In order to see at home all the math lessons, you must copy the code which will be listed in a file in Schoology and then go to NEARPOD ( www.nearpod.com ) and paste the code in order to have access to the lesson of your choosing.  All lessons contain videos explaining the content of the lessons.  The teacher highly recommends that students come prepared to class by using this resource.

3. DAILY BELL RINGER/OTHERS (Worth 10% of the student's quarterly grade)

This is a daily evaluation during the first 5 minutes of each period. If the student is late and misses the Bell Ringer, the student will receive a ZERO. 

Punctuality is a must, in order to be able to earn all the points.

4. In-Class Practice and Quizzes (Worth 30% of the student's quarterly grade)

5. IXL - THE DAILY (Study/Practice) 

This is a daily routine to help students develop a habit of working on a subject like math. The higher the grade level, the more the teacher recommends the use.

The application for this daily routine is called “IXL” and the website is www.ixl.com

Students must do this online and writing the work in a notebook or binder.  By doing this, parents will know if the student did or not the daily assignment.  The teacher will also be able to see the answers the student put online.  Students must do 15 problems per day on the current lesson or on any topic the students feel they have a deficiency.  IXL will notify students when they get a wrong answer, and it will explain how the student should’ve done that problem correctly.

Students must log in to the Student Portal or Schoology.

6. ONLINE ASSIGNMENT & KHAN ACADEMY: (Online homework) 

Each grade level must do their homework online.  Assignments will be through Schoology.

Students must log in to the Student Portal or Schoology.

All online assignments will be worth 30% of the student's quarterly grade (IXL, Khan Academy, and/or Textbook Problems (Even numbers)

Algebra 1:  Homework assignments are posted in Schoology.  Students will find the list of assignments.

7. ASSESSMENTS (Chapter Tests-District Topic Tests-Midyear Assessment) (This is worth 30% of student’s quarterly grade)

All assessments will be under this category.  Students must constantly be studying and practicing math.

1. COMUNICACIÓN

2. LISTA DE LECCIONES

En el sitio web del maestro, debe buscar su nivel de Matemáticas (Álgebra 1 o Álgebra 2) y verá la lista de lecciones que se cubrirán durante el año escolar. Junto al título de cada lección, verá un código en negrita. Para poder ver en casa todas las lecciones de matemáticas, debe copiar el código que aparecerá en un archivo en Schoology y luego ir a NEARPOD ( www.nearpod.com ) y pegar el código para tener acceso a la lección de tu elección Todas las lecciones contienen videos que explican el contenido de las lecciones. El maestro recomienda enfáticamente que los estudiantes vengan preparados a clase usando este recurso.

3. BELL RINGER DIARIO/OTROS (Vale el 10% de la calificación trimestral del estudiante)

Esta es una evaluación diaria durante los primeros 5 minutos de cada período. Si el estudiante llega tarde y pierde el Bell Ringer, el estudiante recibirá un CERO. La puntualidad es imprescindible para poder sumar todos los puntos.

4. Práctica y tarea en clase (por un valor del 30 % de la calificación trimestral del estudiante)

5. IXL (Estudio/Práctica)

Esta es una rutina diaria para ayudar a los estudiantes a desarrollar el hábito de trabajar en una materia como matemáticas. Cuanto más alto es el nivel de grado, más recomienda el maestro el uso.

La aplicación para esta rutina diaria se llama “IXL” y el sitio web es www.ixl.com 

Los estudiantes deben hacer esto en línea y escribiendo el trabajo en un cuaderno o carpeta. Al hacer esto, los padres sabrán si el estudiante hizo o no la tarea diaria. El profesor también podrá ver las respuestas que el alumno puso en línea. Los estudiantes deben resolver 15 problemas por día sobre la lección actual o sobre cualquier tema que los estudiantes sientan que tienen una deficiencia. IXL notificará a los estudiantes cuando obtengan una respuesta incorrecta y les explicará cómo el estudiante debería haber resuelto ese problema correctamente.

6. ASIGNACIÓN ONLINE Y KHAN ACADEMY: (tarea online)

Cada nivel de grado debe hacer su tarea en línea. Las asignaciones serán a través de Schoology.

Los estudiantes deben iniciar sesión en el Portal del estudiante:

Todas las tareas en línea valdrán el 30% de la calificación trimestral del estudiante (IXL, Khan Academy, Problemas de libros de texto (números impares)

Álgebra 1: las tareas asignadas se publican en Schoology. Los estudiantes encontrarán la lista de tareas.

7. EVALUACIONES (Exámenes de Capítulo-Exámenes de Temas del Distrito-Evaluación de Medio de Año) (Esto vale el 30% de la calificación trimestral del estudiante)

Todas las evaluaciones estarán bajo esta categoría. Los estudiantes deben estar constantemente estudiando y practicando matemáticas.
