How often do you practice and where?
For the off-season, we practice at Bud Dome.
In November and December, our plan is to do conditioning (speed, agility, strengthening, baseball movement) once a week beginning in November and concluding in January (with a 2 week break at Christmas).
Starting in January and continuing into the Spring, we will have split squad hitting practice (60 minute sessions) once a week and 90 minute full team or split squad practices once a week.
From Mid-March through Fall season...we will practice once a week at (Sunset Hills or Fenton fields) for 2 hour sessions with optional hitting practice opportunities spread out through the Spring.
During the summer...many of our boys pursue various camps connected to their future high schools as well as other camps through places such as All-Star. Depending on our competitive schedule, especially as it relates to tournament weekends, we may offer additional optional hitting practice (or pitching if there is a need for pitchers to get in some work).
Where are your players from?
We have players from Mehlville, Oakville, Kirkwood, Eureka, Affton, and South City.
How much does it cost? Is there a payment schedule?
For 14U, cost is $950. This cost includes all fees connected to uniforms, indoor/outdoor practice space, league games, tournament games, and other team related expenses for equipment, insurance/sanctioning fees, etc. There are no additional club fees or coaching fees. A breakdown of fees is available upon request.
Side note to above...players will be responsible for purchasing their game pants.
Additional side note...there is also an additional $100 cost for players for our fundraiser only if they choose not to participate. Annually, we sell Super Bowl squares and every player must sell at least 10 squares at $20 a square unless they buy out at $100. Last season, we also did a fudge fundraiser and will likely ask players to participate again for the 14U season.
The payment schedule is $350 due July 15th, and $350 due October 15th. An additional $250 is due January 1st or $350 if a player chooses not to participate in the Super Bowl fundraiser.
How big are your rosters?
We plan to carry 15-16 players using the flex roster approach for playing tournament and league games described on our Team Home Page.
Based on offers and commitments for our 14U team, should we find it best to keep 12-13 players only, we will play as a tournament team only.
Do you bat 9 or bat the roster?
For all league games, we bat the roster.
For tournament games largely in the Spring/Summer, we often bat 9 (with DH) or 10 using the extra hitter option. Occasionally, we bat the roster for pool play games on a Friday or Saturday.
During the Fall season, we use tournaments as extra games to prepare for the new distances we will play at in the Spring and Summer, and approach games with a Spring Training mindset. It is for this reason it will not be uncommon to bat the roster and rotate players on defense on a regular basis to provide a more balanced experience for all players. With that said, as bracket play takes place on Sunday of tournaments, the option to bat 10 or bat 9 (with DH) may be exercised.
How long are your seasons? How often do you play games?
First to be clear about the commitment we expect for someone to play with us, we expect when they sign up for 14U Revolution baseball, they are committing to play with us in the Fall 2023 season AND the Spring/Summer 2024 season.
The Fall season starts early/mid August with practices scheduled around a 4 tournament schedule.
The Spring/Summer schedules starts in January with weekly indoor practices that overlap eventually with outdoor practices starting in Mid-March. Weekly league games begin at Affton in the beginning of April and run through early July. The tournament schedule of weekends will be put in TeamSnap by January to allow for families to plan their summer vacations around baseball.
As a side note to tournaments, we plan to have at least one travel tournament with this year's location TBD. For the past couple of seasons, we have played at the Ball Parks of America. Our travel tournament will take place in either May or June.
Are players penalized for missing practices?
As players get ready to play high school baseball, it is safe to assume that the high school coach he plays for will have rules as it relates to attending practices and games. It is not uncommon for a player who misses a practice at the high school level to have to sit the next game. With this said, there is an expectation that by playing 14U Revolution baseball, there is a commitment to making all practices and games. While this is a not a high school team...yet...if multiple practices and/or scheduled games are missed, this will likely result in a player not receiving playing time similar to those players who are in attendance regularly. One reason is to prepare players for what is expected at the high school level. Another more significant reason is players who do not attend practices or games on a regular basis simply aren't as prepared to play.
How does a prospective player tryout?
Try outs can be scheduled by contacting Coach Jeff ("Gooch") either through email (jgooch22@yahoo.com) or phone 314-255-3167. Prospective players are welcome to attend a weekly team practice to workout with the other boys and see if they could be a good fit. Otherwise, another mutually agreeable time could be scheduled to tryout.
What are you looking for in a player?
For starters, ability and potential. But ideally, a player that can contribute to a team culture where each player possesses desire, dedication, determination and (self) discipline.
What are the long range goals for Revolution Baseball?
The long range goals are to help our players develop to play high school baseball.
Eventually becoming part of a "club" (local youth baseball organization) is not out of the question. However, as options such as this have been researched, there has not been an option presented that as a model improves upon the experience we are able to offer. If an option is presented that could be a benefit to our players as a team moving forward, this option will be brought to our parent group to discuss before any decisions are made. We have a wonderful parent group and we value their support and the investment they make in Revolution Baseball.
The above is subject to change as opportunities are pursued to improve the experience provided to the boys in our program.
