Special Issue Call for Papers
Review of Corporate Finance
Political Uncertainty and Corporate Finance
The Southwestern Finance Association is pleased to announce a call for papers in a special issue of The Review of Corporate Finance (RCF) on Political Uncertainty and Corporate Finance. Select papers presented at the 2025 SWFA Annual Meeting will be encouraged to submit to this special issue.
Special Issue Information
Political uncertainty has risen in the last several years, and firms are increasingly considering tools to mitigate this risk. Firms must navigate increasingly polarized political environments, reshoring pressure from governments, and threats of large shifts in public policy in the aftermath of elections. This uncertainty often leads to reduced firm investment and greater liquidity. However, increased political uncertainty should impact firms in ways that have not been explored.
New metrics in “Firm-Level Political Risk: Measurement and Effects” by Hassan, Hollander, Van Lent, and Tahoun (2019) and “Measuring Geopolitical Risk” by Caldara and Iacoviello (2022) increase our ability to examine how political uncertainty affects firm decision-making and outcomes. This special issue highlights this relationship and identifies effective techniques for firms and investors to navigate an uncertain political environment.
This special issue aims to bring together cutting-edge research that advances our understanding of how political instability, policy unpredictability, and geopolitical risks influence corporate behavior and financial markets. We invite submissions exploring political uncertainty's impact on corporate finance decisions, investment, and institutional behavior. Manuscripts presented at the 2025 SWFA Annual Meeting will be considered for this special issue. We are targeting 8-10 articles for inclusion.

We welcome high-quality, original research papers on a wide range of topics including, but not limited to:
