Year C Fall
Prayer for Illumination
Leader: God of the prophets,
Your Word guides us through the empty parts of our lives.
Open our ears to hear your voice.
Fill us with hope and return us to your path.
ALL: You are the potter, we are the clay. Amen.
Prayer Following Communion
God of hope,
we give thanks for this meal
that satisfies our hearts
and nourishes our souls.
Come, fill our cups
to pour out your love and grace on the world,
in the name of Jesus Christ
who poured himself out for us. Amen.
Year B Fall
Confession with "Just as I Am” UMC Hymnal #357
Note: Before this confession, hand out small mirrors to the
congregation. Invite the congregation to look into the mirror and
reflect on the confessions of their hearts. The mirrors are then
collected and/or brought to the altar or other space in the chancel
as an act of confession.
PASTOR: Christ our Lord invites to his table
all who love him and earnestly repent of their sins.
Let us pause to reflect on our lives...
[begin playing “Just as I am” - play a whole verse and chorus under this time of prayer… ]
Take a look in the mirror... [pause - music continues]
We come just as we are. We offer our mirrors, the reflections of our hearts, to as an act of confession.
[collect mirrors]
ALL SING: Just as I am, without one plea,
but that thy blood was shed for me,
and that thou bidst me come to thee,
O Lamb of God, I come, I come.
PASTOR: O lamb of God, we come,
bringing our faults and failures.
We come bringing the smudges
and blemishes of our lives.
Forgive the stains on our hearts
and restore our likeness in your image.
[add mirrors to chancel space]
ALL SING: Just as I am, and waiting not
to rid my soul of one dark blot,
to thee, whose blood can cleanse each spot,
O Lamb of God, I come, I come.
PASTOR: Hear the Good news:
when we come to Jesus, our sins are wiped away.
In the name of Christ, you are forgiven!
Amen!
