Hi There! My name is Courtney Harris.
Thank you for sharing your students with me. I love working with them. I am a proud alumn of the University of Oklahoma, which I know is not popular to be in Texas, but BOOMER SOONER! While at OU I received my B.F.A. in Drama with an emphasis in acting. I am currently studying for my Masters in Educational Leadership at TCU.
I have always enjoyed working with kids, whether it was as a swimming instructor, gymnastics coach, party host, or teaching acting. Through these experiences, I decided I wanted to merge my two loves, working with kids and theatre. I figured I would start my teaching career at the best district around, Keller ISD, and have taught in the district for 8 years.
I am married to Jeremy Harris, Director of Student Data Systems, for Keller ISD. I love anything Disney, musicals, movies, MOVIE MUSICALS, traveling, cooking, and aerobics classes. Teaching and theatre are my passions. I hope I can inspire your student to find their passion and go for it!
Communication - The performing arts are also about social interaction and cooperation. Collaborating and communicating your vision and thoughts on a scene or project is a major skill that is very important for students.
Confidence - The act of performing can help students and youth recognize their potential for success and improve their confidence. Theater training gives children practice stepping out of their comfort zone and allows them to make mistakes and learn from them.
Reading Skills -A series of studies on the arts and education revealed a link between performing texts in the classroom and the improvement of a variety of verbal skills, including significant increases in story recall and understanding written material.
Empathy - The creativity involved in performing arts extends to emotional creativity and can open children to new ways of seeing the world. By performing a character they are asked to see things through someone else's eyes, which builds empathy to others.
Focus - The ability to focus, keeping a balance between listening and contributing, is a key skill developed through ensemble work.
