Gabriel Elordi is a cadet at Minerva University leading a double life as a member of I.O., the government's specialized investigative unit.
Following the shocking murder of a council member by a shadowy figure known only as The Reaper, the quarter-century reelection competition is launched. Open to all cadets at Minerva, the Fellowship allows ordinary people to bypass the limits of lineage and grants Gabriel the opportunity to join the very leadership he works for.
As the hunt for The Reaper quickly reveals itself to be far more insidious than he thought, Gabriel finds himself digging 15 years into the past and uncovering a secret long-buried beneath the city itself; the nature of which calls into question everything he thinks he stands for.
I. THESIS
IO is tracking down the dangerous cult of MIDAS. However some murders do not align with what they know of the organization. Characterized by a black business card sporting asymmetrical antlers on the side, these murders raise the possibility of a new killer known only as 'The Reaper'.
Following the murder of a council member, Gabriel takes the lead and begins investigating the Reaper case. Meanwhile, the fellowship trials begin over at Minerva. As alliances form, Gabriel joins forces with a fellow contestant named Rook.
II. ANTITHESIS
Gabriel continues to investigate the Reaper and fend off attacks from MIDAS. When the Reaper strikes again, Gabriel finds his DNA at the scene and traces it back to a boy who disappeared 15 years ago, coinciding with the formation of a set of catacombs that had long-been sealed off beneath the city- or so he believed.
As the trials grow tougher, two cadets named Lyra and Marcus join the alliance. United by the catacombs, the four of them find an entrance that leads to the arrest of MIDAS himself.
Following the arrest, Gabriel manages to intercept the Reaper's next target and reveals him to be Rook. However, Rook claims he's on the cusp of dismantling something much greater than them: the Apotheose Project.
