Resonance

This was my brainchild from like December 2024-October 2025 haha. It focused extensively on Rook as someone who could completely destabilize the people around him, then on how he finally used that gift to give people healing they would not have been able to give themselves.

So, unsurprisingly, it was very slow and philosophical. I might return to it someday, following a heavy overhaul, but for now I let it rest :>

PART I: AB INITIO

from the beginning

TL;DR: Rook Vargas meets William Romanesco during his last year of high school and joins his firm. William winds up trying to turn Rook into the son he never had. However, Gabriel Elordi, who also works at the firm, was an earlier attempt at a son that didn't quite work. This makes things very, very awkward while they last.

PART II: IN REM

against a thing

Rook is entering his last year of college at Northwestern. Being a contrarian in an Advanced Ethics seminar lands him in a strange not-friendship with fellow pre-law and kickboxer Artemis Knight. However, Artemis is interning in a criminal investigations unit poised to topple William- and Rook is the missing piece they need to do just that.

7 years following William's arrest, Rook is in sunny Stanford CA living the life he always wanted on paper... only to promptly throw it away. He finds himself in DC chasing one of William's remaining contacts, only to find himself right back where he started. Except, try as he might to restore the way things were before, everything has already changed.
