We support our immigrant neighbors who are being used as scapegoats to direct our collective attention away from the actual problems being caused by this current regime. Current DHS and ICE attacks on immigrants from Mexico, Central American, South America, and elsewhere have destroyed lives of innocent hardworking people — people who have supported our lives here in our community. On this page, you will learn about the ways we are advocating to protect the lives of our neighbors.
Day Laborers - Marin Workers Center
As DHS ICE raids accelerate in our country, ICE starts by taking the most vulnerable immigrants first. They take immigrants released from county jails, pre-conviction. (It does not matter to these thugs, that a person is guilty or not.) Our country's laws are based on the premise that one is innocent before proven guilty. ICE disregards that premise, in order to meet the required "numbers" of arrests demanded by the DHS Director.
Day Laborers are particularly vulnerable, as they often stand on street corners or near home improvement stores, waiting to get work. We hope to establish one, if not more, Workers Centers here in Marin, so workers have the protection of waiting in a building with "private' signage. This will not stop the illegal search and seizures by ICE. BUT it will allow immigration attorneys to file writs of Habeas Corpus to bring these men home to their families.
Below is the survey of Marin's Day Laborers and recommendations for next steps to provide basic protection for these people who support us.
