Animation is a method of transforming still images into moving images. In traditional animation, images are drawn or painted by hand on transparent celluloid sheets before being photographed and exhibited on film. Today, most animation is created using computer-generated imagery (CGI). Computer animation can be extremely detailed 3D animation, or it can be used for stylistic purposes, low bandwidth, or faster real-time renderings.( Fieryninja,2022).
It is critical to understand that while drawing is required for animation, it is also necessary to know. Capturing the essence of the character or an object is where their drawing skills are put to use. It is more about the character's pose and behavior.(Arena, 2021).
To become an animator, one must possess excellent drawing skills. Before computers were introduced in the art of 2D animation, traditional 2D animations sketched cartoon figures by hand. Even now in the modern environment, in which operating systems are the primary means of creating figures, scenes, and backgrounds, one might argue that being good at drawing is one of the most essential factors for a career as an animator.(careerigniter, 2015)
Not every animation student is talented in both traditional and digital art. But then why do they sign up for this course? Apart from the fact that art is their desire, they enroll in an animation course to improve their abilities. Nevertheless, an absence among these skills may impede students' academic advancement. It could lead to them losing enthusiasm and confidence in their desired career. As a result, his\her performance in school and dedication to their work will suffer. (CIIT.EDU, 2019)
Should animators require that they'll be able to draw? This is a question often probably heard, and if someone is fresh to animation, they specifically asked some contemporaries several times as well. Drawing has historically been intimately associated with animation. Everything back in the early years of animating everything was 2D, therefore every element had to be hand sketched.
Situation has changed, and 3D animation is now used in a large percentage of animated films. To make 3D animation, animators aren't even required to grasp how to draw. The majority of their job will include utilizing a computer to manipulate and manage figures in the same manner that a puppeteer would. Drawing is merely one of several techniques for "animating" or "bringing to life" an item or figure.(Pluralsight, 2014)
The need for drawing skills as an animator depends on the exact areas an animator wants to be active in. In general 2D animation, it is crucial to know drawing in a professional manner. In 3D animation, it is not essential to be able to draw. Nevertheless, drawing skills will always be helpful throughout an animator's career.
Drawing is a fundamental skill for animators. It is the foundation for creating characters, scenes, and movements. As an animator, it is essential to develop efficient drawing skills to improve the quality of your work. To practice efficient drawing for animators, one should study anatomy, practice gesture drawing, draw from life, use reference images, experiment with different styles, and keep a sketchbook. It is important to practice consistently and seek feedback to develop drawing skills and create compelling animations.
