🇬🇧STUDY OF THE ORIGIN OF VARIOUS FORMS OF HYDROCEPHALUS IN ANIMAL AND HUMAN MODELS
Understanding the causes of the different types of hydrocephalus is crucial from a therapeutic standpoint. Finding commonalities in their genesis allows us to identify potential targets for the development of effective therapies to combat the pathology from its onset and complement current palliative treatments. These palliative treatments alone only improve symptoms, not prevent damage. Over these years, our contributions have revealed the crucial role played by the mature and developing ependyma in the origin of both congenital and acquired hydrocephalus, in both animal and human models. To this end, we have studied various types of congenital hydrocephalus (human and animal) and have developed hemorrhagic hydrocephalus models that mimic the different forms of hemorrhagic hydrocephalus in babies, upon which cellular therapies developed in our laboratory can be tested to treat these pathologies in a personalized manner.
