Research Travels

During the summer of 2022, I visited the Pleasure House Oyster farm in Virginia Beach, Virginia, accompanied by my advisor, Dr. Jonathan van Senten, and fellow researchers from Virginia Seafood AREC. During the visit, I engaged with oyster farmers, gaining insights into hands-on experiences and challenges associated with oyster production.

In September 2022, I attended the annual meeting of the Smart Sustainable Shellfish Aquaculture Management Framework (S^3AM) project in Annapolis, Maryland. During the event, I engaged with various key stakeholders, including engineers from the University of Maryland, Shellfish industry producers and owners, and aquacultural extensionists. Additionally, I had the opportunity to operate an underwater drone for the first time and gained insights into the hardware and software components of potential underwater technologies applicable to shellfish farming.

I had the privilege of volunteering and participating in the CAIA big event held on March 16, 2023, at Virginia Tech. The event served as a convergence point for both young researchers and senior scientists dedicated to advancing technology in agriculture. Their collaborative efforts aim to address challenges and enhance efficiency and sustainability in the field. I was honored to represent Virginia Seafood AREC during this occasion.
