New Horizons provides a day treatment program in partnership with Phoenix Centre, RCDSB and RCCDSB for students from grade 6-8. The program is funded by the Ministry of Education (Section 23 of Grants for Student Needs) in partnership with the Ministry of Child and Youth Services and is hosted by RCDSB in Pembroke.
Intensive therapeutic intervention is provided with two main areas of focus; mental health and educational needs. While the program is set up as an extension of the child’s community school, individual, family, and group therapy is an expectation for children and their families while attending New Horizons.
Home schools will need to attend the case conference and transition meetings as scheduled. Reparation meetings are also considered in certain cases before reentry to home school.
Referrals are accepted through ECPP referral committee. All inquiries can be directed to your school Principal.
Valleycrest is also a Section 23 program, providing the same supports for students as New Horizons through the same partnerships. Valleycrest is hosted by RCCDSB and has two locations, one in Pembroke and one in Renfrew. Valleycrest is a day treatment program combining educational programming and mental health services to those students in grade 2-5 whose circumstances or needs have prevented them from being successful within their home school. All families of children attending are given parenting support to help students transfer new skills from school to home.
