In the River Edge School District, we have two newly renovated STEAM Labs. These labs include many materials, tools, and resources for teachers and students as well as space for students to collaborate and work on hands-on projects and learning.
Some tools and resources include:
- A Green Screen to record video projects and edit
- Robotics kits, such as Ozobots and Cubelets
- Snapcircuits
- Makerbot 3D Printer
- A Maker Space filled with materials for building projects
- A SMARTboard for class instruction
- iPad Cart
- Chromebook Cart

Our staff receives training on the STEAM philosophy and how to incorporate these lessons into their instruction.
Maker projects are a great way for students to visualize and model concepts they learn.
STEAM stresses hands-on learning.
Students learn how to to code throughout the year using Hour of Code, Tykercad, and Scratch.
Engineering practices and method is included in lessons to emphasize on-going problem solving and multiple solutions.
Learning about STEAM careers is extremely important for enhance student understanding and engagement. Last year, Fifth Graders met Captain Hugh Carola apart of the Hackensack Riverkeeper to learn about local ecology and issues.
