Culturally Responsive and Sustaining Education with NYU's Maria Herndandez, MSW, Ed. M, Ph.D
This offering includes asynchronous and synchronous modules that will focus on building capacity to develop and implement welcoming and affirming environments that aim to increase student belonging and academic engagement for 40 educators. Educators will move through a total of 10 (1.5 hour) modules that focus on content and application at their own pace.
Educators will also come together 5 times virtually (for 1.5 hours each) between October 2026 to March 2027 to expand the application of the modules. Virtual dates and times TDB.

This four-session, in-person professional learning series is designed to build educators' capacity to implement the Portrait of a Graduate (PoG) framework, grounded in the principles of Culturally Responsive Sustaining Education (CRSE). Participants will explore the interconnected PoG attributes, examine their alignment with CRSE high-leverage practices, assess district and school readiness, and identify the systems and structures needed to support successful implementation. Throughout the series, educators will deepen their understanding of how to leverage students' identities, languages, and experiences as assets for learning while developing a practical plan to implement PoG outcomes. By the end of the training, participants will have a stronger understanding of the PoG and CRSE frameworks, increased confidence in implementation, and an actionable roadmap for their schools and districts.
