Art is a popular choice for students at Bishop Challoner School. GCSE Art & Design is taught from year 9 onwards.

The work in the online exhibition comprises a selection of pieces from GCSE and A-Level students.

Identity is a popular theme that our GCSE students are inspired by and engage in, partly through an exploration of portraiture. The exhibits include examples of portraits students have created in the style of artists they have been influenced by.

Year 12 Fine Art students begin working from a theme entitled ‘Concealed and Revealed’. The creative journey during year 12 inspires students to develop their own theme, which progresses through Year 13.

Students at all key stages actively seek inspiration from artists' work as a departure point to develop their own ideas, techniques and handling of materials.

The Lockdown has brought particular challenges for students and teachers in recent months. Students have had to produce much of their work at home, and interaction with and feedback from staff has been predominantly virtual.

Some of our A Level students have been inspired to explore issues around mental health and wellbeing in the lockdown and have produced some striking images such as people in isolation at home and portraits of people wearing masks.

All of our students have shown remarkable resilience, determination and self-discipline during the coronavirus pandemic and have overcome obstacles in their path. They should be proud of the work they have produced.
