Reese Duncan: Journalist

Welcome!

My name is Reese Duncan, and I am a senior at Lincoln High School in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. Journalism has been my spark and driving fire for many years, between the Statesman, Dakota News Now and beyond into the national realm. It means the world to me, and I fervently want to immerse myself in it as much as possible, including in both future collegiate and professional settings.

My Journalism Experience

I got my official start in journalism in 2021 after starting as a Staff Writer for the Statesman, Lincoln High School's newspaper. Since then, I have been promoted to News Editor for the 2022-23 year, and I currently serve as the Online Editor-in-Chief for a staff of 45. I developed a strong love for online and multimedia journalism, and that guided me to my broadcasting debut at the Dakota News Now Media Camp in 2022. After that, my participation as a Journalism City Delegate and recipient of the Travis Memorial Scholarship at South Dakota Girls State in 2023 and as the South Dakota representative at the 2023 Al Neuharth Free Spirit and Journalism conference, with several national journalism conventions in between, stand as testament of my journalistic passion.Â
