What is Redpoint Rally?
Redpoint Rally is a local hybrid redpoint top rope climbing competition where climbers earn points for zones and tops on clearly defined routes within a timed heat.
When and where is the event?
The competition takes place Saturday, February 21st 2026 at the Logan Health Fitness Center climbing wall. Full schedule details are listed on the Schedule page.
Who is this event open to?
This event is open to climbers who are proficient climbing on top rope, can tie in independently, and are capable of climbing at a competitive pace within their chosen division.
How do I sign up and pay?
Registration is completed online through the competition registration link, or calling the Fitness Center Front Desk 406-751-4100 Spaces are limited and registration may move to a wait list once heats are full.
After you have signed up and paid, you will receive an email within 24-48 hours that has a link to the division and heat registration for the competition. If you do not receive your division / heat registration form within 72 hours please notify either JeffreyVoigt@logan.org or RedpointRally@gmail.com
Is there a limit to the number of competitors?
Yes. Each heat is limited to 10 competitors, with a maximum number of 30 competitors for the event.
Can I change my heat after registering?
Selecting a heat is optional and competition staff will assign heats if one is not selected. If a heat is selected and you are requesting a change please contact JeffreyVoigt@logan.org or RedpointRally@gmail.com Heat changes can not be guaranteed and depend on availability and event logistics.
What happens if I arrive late?
Competitors must check in during the designated window between 8:30am - 9:15am Februay 21st and attend their assigned pre heat briefing. Late arrivals may not be permitted to compete.
No, you do not need to stay if you assigned heat is later in the day. You may return prior to your heat. Just be sure that you return in time to attend your required pre-heat briefing at the wall.
How long is each heat?
Each heat lasts 90 minutes.
What is the competition format?
The event uses a hybrid redpoint format. Climbers may attempt routes multiple times during their heat, with a maximum of two attempts per route at a time before rotating to another route or the back of the routes queue.
Each competitor's top 3 scoring routes (ZONES or TOPS) will count toward their total score.
Yes, competitors may share beta with each other while off the wall. While a competitor is climbing, no beta or advice may be given to them by any other competitor, event staff, volunteer or spectator. If beta is being shared while a competitor is on a route, this will end that climbers attempt and no points will be awarded for that attempt.
What is a ZONE and how does it work?
Some routes include a clearly marked ZONE hold. Securing the zone earns partial points for that route. A climber may earn either the ZONE or a TOP for a particular route, not both.
What counts as a TOP?
A TOP is awarded when the climber demonstrates controlled use of the designated finish holds as confirmed by a judge.
What is considered an attempt?
An attempt begins the moment a climber’s body leaves the ground to climb a route. Each pull off the ground counts as one attempt.
How many attempts am I allowed?
Climbers may make unlimited total attempts during their heat, but are limited to two attempts per route at a time before rotating.
How are ties broken?
Ties will be broken initially by fewest attempts on the counted scoring routes. Additional criteria may be used if needed.
Can I climb routes outside my division?
Climbers may attempt any of the competition routes. Route difficulties are not marked, so part of the competition is to figure out your strategy to successfully obtain points on climbs. Only their highest 3 scoring routes count toward their final score.
Do I need to bring my own belayer?
No. Belayers are provided for the event. Know someone who might want to volunteer? Send them Here!
How will belayers manage the rope?
Belayers will use a safe, loose belay to ensure climbers are climbing independently without assistance from the rope.
Is there a warm up area?
Yes. A designated warm up traverse will be available before heats begin. Warm ups are not allowed during active heats.
What happens if a climber scores significantly higher than others in their division?
If a climber’s score is substantially higher than the rest of the field in their division, the event staff may review the results to ensure the division selection aligns with the intent of fair competition.
Does this mean I can be moved to a different division after competing?
Division changes are not automatic. However, in rare cases where a score clearly exceeds the competitive range of the division, event staff may make an adjustment to results or placement to preserve competitive fairness.
How are division reviews determined?
Reviews are based on overall score separation, route difficulty achieved, and comparison to the rest of the division. This process is handled by event staff and the head judge.
Are judges’ decisions final?
Yes. Judges’ calls regarding attempts, zones, tops, and safety are final.
Can I volunteer at the event?
Yes, if you are not competing. Volunteers are needed for belaying, judging, check in, and scoring. Details are available on the Volunteers and Staff page.
Where will results be posted?
Final results will be posted on the Results page after scores have been verified.
