Redfish Lakehouse is on 

the West Arm of Kootenay Lake

Kootenay Lake is damned which means the lake levels rise and fall depending on the time of year.  During Spring freshet (snow melt) the water levels rise and every year is very different.  Fortis BC lowers the water levels every winter in preparation for Spring freshet which exposes a lot of sand in front of Redfish Lakehouse.  When the water levels rise in the spring and early summer the water levels could be on the grass.
