Dr. Charlie Miller @design2research (a professor from the University of Minnesota) created FlipGrid so he could keep in touch with his students using a private video-discussion platform (Young, 2018). FlipGrid is amazing because it is a FREE platform for educators, and it is supported by the #FlipGridFever community. The FlipGrid team focuses-on amplifying the voices of ALL students. Educators are constantly sharing wonderful ideas with one another. I was so happy when Microsoft purchased FlipGrid in 2018 because they announced that the full version was free to all educators (Young, 2018). You can complete your FlipGrid Educator Certification for free too. If FlipGrid is something that is newer for you then check-out the Educator’s Guide to FlipGrid.
I love seeing how excited my students get when they get a chance to record their voices. I found that my English as a Second Language Learners exploded with language because it was a safe place for them to listen and speak. It is fun to set-up different recording stations. I use a green pop-up shower as a recording pod. Later, I use the recording pod as a green screen. Sometimes we use privacy offices too. The students enjoy using recording headphones, and retro recording phones.
