We are currently raising lavender and pearl guineafowl. We have keets beginning in March each year. Guineas are one farm animal that people either love or hate.
Our first endeavor in guineas was a purchase of 8 keets, we let them out of their coop and they walked thru the fence and we never saw them again. We have since learned a lot about how to raise and keep them. Guineas prefer to roam in a tight knit group but have no regards for boundaries or traffic. We have learned to start with several more than we actually need because there will always be losses.
Guineas do best when they are kept cooped up for 6-8 weeks and we like to raise them with a couple of chickens. Once they are released they stick with the chickens and tend to not roam away. Eventually they will form their own flock and won't need the chickens anymore.
Guineafowl are bug eating machines! They are great for tick control around your home and farm.
