Belted Galloways were our original choice for cattle. We chose them because of their size, temperment and they aren't picky eaters. Our pastures still need some work and need better grasses for grazing. The Belted Galloways are high quality beef and graze efficiently on rough forage.

Belted Galloways are a Scottish breed of cow and were imported in 1940's to North America. Galloways are medium in size, with cows weighing about 1,000 pounds and bulls about 1,600 pounds Cows show strong maternal instinct, including the ability to protect calves against predators.

We were surprised when we read that Texas Longhorns are listed on the The Livestock Conservancy as a critical species. Our friends have a Longhorn farm and we were excited when the opportunity to own a few was available!

A 2013 census conducted by The Livestock Conservancy shows the global population to be just over 3,000 animals, with approximately 1,200 Longhorns alive inside the U.S. – a dangerously low number that has been in sharp decline in recent years due to crossbreeding, herd reductions, and retiring ranchers.
