The killer had been angry with Lounds for what he wrote in the newspaper. The authorities wanted to find the connection between the death of Freddy Lounds and the murder of the Jacobi family. The agent was going around the investigation, but they weren’t making progress. They had evidence, but they were still studying the victims, trying to figure out what they were missing. It seemed that they were going to leave Agent Will Graham alone.
Dolarhyde thought about Reba. He felt satisfaction imagining her. As he watched the television, the police were still investigating the Freddy Lounds case.
He felt he had the power in his hands and viewed Will as someone fragile someone he could break to pieces. Every time he looked at Reba, he became obsessed with her. He wanted to touch her, to have her.
Will and Jack, were taking over on the case. The FBI took it upon themselves to do a detailed profile of the victims. Chicago police are making rounds of the city before the full moon.
The killer, every full moon, transforms into the Red Dragon, so the FBI is aware of what move he will make.
One day, Reba and Dolarhyde went for a walk, so she thought, it was a Saturday morning. They went to the zoo; she was excited to go there. Reba wanted to touch a tiger; she was grateful she went with him. Their relationship was feeling closer and closer, she reached out her hand. They were looking at the tiger, she felt nervous and excited. In her thoughts, Dolarhyde had been aroused, so alone to see her beside the tiger, she wanted it to be only his.
In a moment, they kissed; they were shy. Dolarhyde offered her a Martini. He wanted Reba to stay. Reba lay back on the couch; they were watching a movie. Somehow, he was proud of his self-control being with Reba. But, it didn't last long, he was next to her. It was a woman who was with him. But, his thoughts wouldn't leave him alone, he had murdered people, his goal was to become that Dragon, but they were overpowering him. She had fallen asleep.
His voice in his head was disturbing him; it was the red dragon, in his conscience. It was telling him that REBA must not come back, it was his human side.
Reba woke up; she didn't feel angry about what happened last night, and she had to go home. He dropped her off at her house.
That Saturday, Will was on his way to the FBI in Washington; they sent him a video, the same day of Freddy Lounds murder. He decided to listen to the recording, Freddy was very scared. In the recording, he said, “I have seen the Red Dragon.”
Freddy said that the dragon was merciful, but he was kidnapped by him, in reality, everything he wrote in the newspaper was real, and the red dragon did not like it. The Tooth Fairy and the Red Dragon are the same person, that nickname of the fairy was given by the FBI because he left teeth of his victims. And the red dragon chose it because the Dragon is a merciful but terrifying being.
Will was sent a letter; it was from Dr. Hannibal Lecter.
"He stresses to him about Freddy Lounds, what he wrote about him in the newspaper, that he was a cruel person. And he reminds him of his dark past, where he killed Jacob Hobbs, Will killed him. Graham was disturbed, he was in an emotional block, and it made him anxious. Hannibal felt proud that he had killed Mr. Hobbs."
REFLECTION
Someone who is a murderer, if he can have affection towards a person, his inner struggle of identity. Is Francis or the Red Dragon? For me, it is difficult to know who I am, my identity as a person, not as a murderer.
By obsessing so much on a painting, confusing your own identity, not being able to make your decisions, at this point is already the climax of the story of this murderer and how a person has affection, at the same time wants to kill her. It makes me reflect that all people are not equivalent.
How your past mistakes can haunt you day by day, how Will has his nightmares, how he is tired all the time. How someone manipulated you to kill someone. It made me reflect that manipulation makes you commit acts that you don't want to do, and that it is important to be emotionally stable.
