YOU ARE LOVED.
We believe in being committed to one another in a local church body through simple, meaningful membership and care. Learn more below about how we do that at RCW.
November 24th - also on the Chatter group on Facebook.
We’re excited to announce our first-ever MEMBERSHIP Sunday coming up on December 7th during our Sunday service. I want to take a moment to share what that means and how you and your family can be part of it.
Membership at Rec is the foundation for the future decades of making disciples, maturing disciples, and multiplying disciples here in McDowell County. At its core it’s our foundational, public commitment to biblically care for one another as followers of Jesus — member to member — as we grow together in faith, love, and gospel mission.
As God raises up new servant leaders and future elders, membership also helps us stay accountable in caring for our church family and tending to things like direction, doctrine, and discipline as we walk together and welcome others into our family.
Our super simple Membership requirements:
Salvation — You’ve been born again in Jesus
Baptism — You’ve publicly declared your faith in Christ
Attendance — You’ve been consistently attending Rec for at least 3 months so we can know you and you can know us
Discover Rec — You’ve completed our Discover class (about 1.5 hours) to learn our history, beliefs, structure, and future vision. We can do this in a group or one-on-one if needed. All of that information is also below in this page.
If you’re ready for the next step, all we ask is that you fill out our online membership form (link above) so you can share your testimony and story of salvation. From there, we will call if you have questions or if anything needs clarified before installation.
I hope this is helpful! The holidays get busy, but we don’t want to wait any longer to begin installing members and maturing as a church family. This will be a lifelong practice that we can celebrate with new folks for years to come... pray for the Lord of the Harvest to use us as His workers in our community to see the lost saved and brought in!
Ken Kelley will be there to join us on December 7th as Faith and I will be installed as members, too, along with the Rowes and the Dudgeons. We are SO excited to take this step together.
Happy Thanksgiving, I'll bump this information on the Gloo Text Messaging service as well and don't be shy to reach out if ya need to!
In His grip.
Paul
Attending a class does not necessarily mean that you are committing to join our church, but instead is a chance to learn more and to be heard. We believe that having folks attend a church membership class will provide a strong foundation for our gatherings long-term and that those meetings will also take us into important scriptural topics that might otherwise be overlooked or taken for granted. When it's all said and done, we pray everyone feels they have a clear, healthy understanding of the church so that they can make a more informed decision.
Step 1: Discover - Discover Reclamation is a 1.5 hour meeting after church (with a food and childcare as needed). Our goal is to walk through the DNA of our church so that people can learn our history, our core values and get to know our mission in the community.
Step 2: Share - We would also like to hear your story and learn about your faith in Christ! We're a small town, but if we don't know you very well yet, after Discover Reclamation we will be sure to get in touch to hear your story and answer questions.
Step 3: Commit - The final step is committing to membership at Reclamation Welch publicly on a Sunday and our whole church being able to celebrate what God is doing in your life and in the life of our church. That link can be found above.
Of course not! You're welcome to join us (or any church, for that matter) without being a member. But our hope is that you'll desire to commit to Reclamation as your church home, grow in your discipleship and be blessed to be part of what God is doing here!
Romans 12:4-5 - "Just as our bodies have many parts and each part has a special function, so it is with Christ’s body. We are many parts of one body, and we all belong to each other."
As you walk with Jesus we believe it's important to be committed to a specific local body of believers. Church membership serves as a way to publicly commit yourself to a church body in mutual submission, trusting that God is at work in all members (1 Corinthians 12) to see His church be built into a healthy, unified, Christ-glorifying body.
Here are a few reasons to consider:
Unity and Accountability:
Church membership fosters unity and accountability by providing a committed community. Regular gatherings enable believers to grow spiritually together and fulfill the biblical mandate to encourage one another.
"And let us not neglect our meeting together, as some people do, but encourage one another, especially now that the day of his return is drawing near." (Hebrews 10:25)
Spiritual Leadership and Oversight:
Church membership involves submitting to the spiritual leadership and oversight of elders appointed by God to shepherd the flock. By voluntarily aligning with a local body of believers, members entrust their spiritual care to qualified leaders who watch over their souls and provide guidance, support, and accountability in their Christian walk.
"Obey your spiritual leaders, and do what they say. Their work is to watch over your souls, and they are accountable to God. Give them reason to do this with joy and not with sorrow. That would certainly not be for your benefit." (Hebrews 13:17)
Stewardship and Service:
Church membership encourages us to actively participate in the life and ministry of the church by stewarding our spiritual gifts and talents for the healthy growth of the body. Through membership, we are equipped and empowered to serve one another and contribute to the work of the church.
"God has given each of you a gift from his great variety of spiritual gifts. Use them well to serve one another." (1 Peter 4:10)
