It is with immense pride and gratitude that I share my personal journey over the past 14 years, which has led me to become a Ghanaian citizen through the expedited naturalization process initiated by President Nana Akuffo Addo and the government of Ghana. The ceremony held at the prestigious Jubilee House was not only a moment of celebration but also a testament to the rich Pan-African legacy that traces back to influential figures such as George Padmore, Honorable Mosiah Marcus Garvey, Dr. W.E.B Dubois, and Osagyefou Kwame Nkrumah, as highlighted by President Akuffo Addo.
Being in the presence of these giants and receiving recognition and citizenship from an African state fills me with profound humility and honor. I believe that our collective journey serves as an exemplification to the entire Black world, demonstrating the power of unity and the possibility of repatriation to Africa. This historic moment dispels the myth that leaving the West and returning to Africa is an insurmountable feat. Moreover, President Nana Akuffo Addo, in his commitment to forging connections with the global Black community, undertook a remarkable initiative known as "The Year of Return" in 2019, where he traveled to various Western power hubs to foster a stronger bond with West African descendants affected by the Trans-Atlantic Slave Trade.
My personal adventure in Ghana commenced in 2009 when my mother, Brenda K. Muhammad (PBUH), envisioned a new life in Ghana. Through divine intervention and the support of our Ancestors, I was fortunate to accompany her on this transformative journey. Initially, I did not anticipate staying in Ghana for an extended period, but the universe conspired in ways I couldn't have imagined, opening doors and paving the way for my continued presence here. Reflecting upon it now, I recognize the role played by God and our Ancestors in making this experience possible and ongoing.

Leading up to the citizenship ceremony there was a lot of trepidation concerning if it would take place. Ministry of the Future hosted multiple meetings to share information.
After the Citizenship Ceremony at the Jubilee House we were invited to a party in the garden. There we had the opportunity to meet and greet other recipients and Ghanaian dignitaries.
After the Ceremony at the Jubilee House 2019. The recipients were granted an invitation to Kyibi in the Eastern Region to a Grand Durbar. There were seated with the other royals from regions across Ghana.
Throughout history, the resilience and resistance of the captured and enslaved African people against the Trans-Atlantic Slave Trade, colonization, and neo-colonialism have been well-documented. From the shores of Africa to the decks of slave ships and the destinations they were forcibly taken to, our ancestors fought against the system of enslavement.
Before our repatriation to Ghana in 2009, my mother and I actively participated in the African-Centered Conscious Community of the Tidewater Area in Virginia. We played pivotal roles in bringing renowned African-centered scholars like Dr. Ishakamusa Barashango, Dr. John Henry Clarke, Dr. Yosef Ben Yochannon, Dr. Khalid Muhammad, Dr. Francis Cress Welding, and Dr. Ray Haygin to our community. Additionally, we were involved in organizing and participating in events such as Kwanzaa, Juneteenth, Black History programs, and mentoring initiatives that directly impacted the youth.
The issue of citizenship for the African Diaspora emerged as our "Right of Return" in Ghana. My mother worked closely with Dr. Hamet Maulana, forming a team of scholars and community leaders from the African Caribbean Community. Through a series of meetings and determined efforts, they were able to bring this issue to the desk of President John Mahama in 2016. Various events and circumstances contributed to the achievement of citizenship for the African Diaspora.
At our business, YZ Born Again Afrikan, we hosted events that supported the theme of repatriation at our Event Space. Collaborating with the Ghana National Youth Authority, we celebrated African Unity Day from 2016 to 2017 and 2021. We also organized meetings that featured special guest Honorable Kwesi Quartey, which played a role in leading up to the Citizenship Ceremony. Furthermore, our business had a significant presence at the Panafest Durbar grounds at Assin Manso (Last Bath), where our young staff members shared poignant poems they had written for the international audience.
Our African Study group has proven to be an effective means of connecting with the wider community. Simply by working and living within the community, we have shattered numerous myths and misconceptions surrounding our respective communities.
