About Us

Mission

Our mission is for parents and guardians to use our website for their youth as a resource to learn the academic and emotional benefits of reading, as well as to provide them with various ways to implement reading in their homes.

Inspiration

The project members of this website worked in collaboration with Weld County District 6 in Greeley, CO, and the Cumbres Scholarship Program at the University of Northern Colorado. Both members collaborated with District 6's English Language Development Department and other fellow Cumbres members to create an after-school read-aloud program. The goal of the program was to engage families and students with storytelling and to encourage them to enjoy listening to stories as well as to enjoy reading. The project members wanted to take a deeper look into the 'why' of storytelling and why reading outside of school is crucial for children's overall academic development.
