塑膠製品帶來的垃圾汙染一直是所有人頭疼的議題。我們隨處可見的垃圾袋、免洗餐具（disposable tableware）、寶特瓶（PET Bottles）、吸管（straw）等等大多是不易分解，且分解過程可達數百年，對環境和生態造成嚴重破壞。

因此科學家一直在找尋因應對策，希望找到有效分解塑膠且回收再造的方法，好消息是，這個塑膠汙染的解決之道在2018 年4 月有了曙光。研究報告說，美國與英國的研究人員無心插柳柳成蔭，開發出一種可以分解塑膠的酵素（enzyme），名為「PETase」，有望在未來成為解決塑膠汙染的地球救星。

2018年1月25日當天，國際學術期刊《細胞》發布了中國科學家的一項重大突破，他們利用20 多年前複製出桃莉羊（Dolly the sheep）的技術，成功複製出非人靈長類動物（non-human primates）－兩隻複製猴，並以「中華」為概念，將兩隻複製猴命名為「中中」與「華華」。有人也因此打趣，看來中國經典文學《西遊記》裡，孫悟空「拔毛變猴」的事情，從神話成真了！

全球相繼發生森林大火，不僅令珍貴的森林消逝，更直接加劇全球氣候變遷（accelerate global climate change）。除了釋放大量二氧化碳，衛星圖像（satellite images）更顯示西伯利亞森林大火的煙霧，如何北移到達北極。黑碳（black carbon）沉降到冰雪表面，受污染的冰層無法有效反射陽光，加速北極海冰的消融。
